The Narwhal is a one or two piece swimsuit with various piecing and detailing options. No matter which option you choose, this swimsuit is both stylish and offers decent coverage. The one piece suit has 4 different style options from simple bodice all the way to full piecing with criss-cross details. The back has a beautiful lace up detail. The two piece suit features high waisted bottoms with side panels and optional criss-cross details. The front bodice is similar to the one piece suit, but in the back you see the racerback lines with a cut-out.
Main Fabrics: Swim fabrics with minimum 50% 4-way stretch. Athletic knits can be used, but may wear out sooner from sun and chlorine exposure. Swim fabrics with high recovery and lower stretch percentage will result in a suit that feels tighter.
Lining: Swim lining fabric with similar vertical and horizontal stretch as the main fabric. Some swim linings do not have as much vertical stretch which will affect the vertical fit of 1 pc versions of this pattern. These linings can be used, but adjustments to length should be considered for enough vertical ease. Main fabric can be used in place of lining, but may result in a slightly tighter suit.

Sofiona has made another great pattern: lots of variations, perfect instructions & "Sofiona" finishes. This was the first swimsuit I ever sewed and Sofiona's instructions got me over the hurdle. I can see many more of these in my future.
Like all of Sofiona's patterns, the Narwhal is impeccably drafted and designed for the girl to wear, (not just to take pictures in.) I appreciate the coverage/modesty of the two piece while still allowing for easy on and off. We love the unique crisscross designs and how the back detail works so well with the Moss pattern.
I have sewn two Narwhal suits for my tween daughters. The coverage is so suitable for this age group and its perfectly on-trend. My girls love the details the criss-crosses add. The suit finishes up beautifully with a detailed tutorial and many tips. I can't wait to sew more of the many variations included in the pattern.
